I believe that the process of learning is as critical to student success as the material. For that reason, I have shifted my professional focus to educational technology.
- Coaching: I believe that teachers learn best by working with experienced teachers. I serve as a resource for my colleagues, offering professional development courses, individualized instruction, and departmental presentations on new technology. Additionally, I provide coaching on OneNote, Schoology, Nearpod, Office 365, G-Suite for Education (GAFE), Schoolwires, Adobe Spark, BrainPOP, EDpuzzle, as well as other educational software applications.
- Technical Training: I have consistently pursued training in educational technology. I have earned certifications in BrainPOP, Duolingo, and have become a Microsoft Innovative Educator. I am ccurrently working toward my Google certification and my Nearpod certification. I continue to seek out new opportunities for growth.
- Curiosity & Commitment: Today, technology evolves at lightning speed, which means that expertise is an ongoing pursuit. I have both the curiosity and commitment required to provide the most current and relevant guidance needed to support a 1:1 initiative—I am dedicated to the pursuit of innovative approaches that advance student learning.
- Classroom Innovation: Throughout my career, I have created opportunities to bring innovative learning experiences into the classroom. I offer an excellent record of designing high-quality student-centered instruction—for example, my students evaluate the presidency of John F. Kennedy by importing the text of his speeches into a web-based application to “data crunch” his rhetoric. I have taken my students on virtual field trips to the White House using Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers and on the surface of Mars with Nearpod. Most significantly, I volunteered to pilot the 1:1 initiative, testing both the Surface laptop and Microsoft OneNote. I am also a participant in the Woodrow Wilson HistoryQuest Fellowship for instructional game design.
